Amazon’s “Ashray” Initiative Wins Praise from Gig Workers Across Delivery Platforms in Gurugram
Amazon India’s “Ashray” is drawing appreciation from delivery associates across platforms in Gurugram, where the company recently deployed its Mobile Ashray Van to provide relief and support to frontline gig workers battling long hours and rising summer temperatures.
The initiative witnessed delivery associates from platforms including Zepto, Blinkit, Zomato and other logistics networks taking breaks inside the air-conditioned Ashray Van stationed in high-footfall delivery zones across the city. The mobile facility, launched as part of Amazon’s broader expansion of Project Ashray, is designed to offer a clean and comfortable rest space for delivery personnel irrespective of the company they work for. Several delivery associates using the facility shared positive feedback about the amenities available inside the van, highlighting how the initiative is helping them during demanding work shifts in extreme heat conditions.

“The experience from Amazon Ashray has been good. There is Air conditioned resting facility, mobile charging, cold water to drink. Overall good experience,” said one delivery associate using the Ashray facility in Gurugram.

The Mobile Ashray on wheels is equipped with air-conditioned seating, drinking water, electrolytes, Wi-Fi access and mobile charging points, enabling delivery associates to pause, hydrate and recharge during their workday. Amazon said the initiative has already witnessed strong participation from gig workers across multiple platforms within days of launch.

Project Ashray was launched with the objective of creating accessible rest spaces for India’s growing delivery workforce. According to Amazon India, the facilities are free to use for all delivery associates, reinforcing the company’s focus on improving safety, comfort and well-being for frontline workers across the logistics ecosystem.

Industry observers say initiatives like Mobile Ashray are becoming increasingly important as India’s quick commerce and e-commerce sectors continue to expand rapidly, placing greater physical demands on delivery personnel working across urban centres.
